Artist's Statement
As a small child I discovered that I was happiest when drawing,
surrounded by my animals. All my life I have tried to become educated in
the various forms that "art" comes in and to learn as much about animals as
I could. Of course experimentation is always preferred to classroom time.
In my early 20s while trying to make a living wholesaling and retailing
hand made apparel and wearable art, I rediscovered china paints. My
grandmother had introduced me to the art of painting china when I was in my
early teens. At the time I didn't much care for all the "don'ts" involved.
But suddenly painting on blank white tiles, ignoring the "don'ts", I found
my medium (not china painting but using the same low fire paints to
incorporate my painting into the face of the tiles). And for the past 20
years it has filled that empty space all artists feel when not creating.
Those closest to me have always been artists of some type (painters,
writers, story teller) and have made an impact on my creativity.
I have learned that you don't know if you can do something until you
try: and that it makes no difference what you have DONE only what you are
DOING.
