Other On-line Sources for Useful Used/Rare/Out-of-Print Books
Bookfinder.com
Search all of the major on-line book sources from one site! Bookfinder.com is a search engine written by Anirvan Chatterjee.
Advanced Book Exchange
ABE offers a free automated want list matching service. Enter your wants and they are automatically checked against new additions to the service. This service helped me find a book I'd been seeking for a long time!
Bibliofind
Similar to ABE, but slightly more difficult to use. Recently acquired by Amazon.
Bibliocity
Based in Australia, similar to ABE & Bibliofind.
Alibris
Based on Interloc (a former strictly dealer-to-dealer service). They now have a 3 million entry database open to the public.
Powell's
The on-line presence of the biggest bookstore in Portland, OR. Vast stock of new and used books with a well designed search engine.
Amazon.com
Amazon is the king of the on-line sellers of new books. If a book is in print, you can get it from them. They discount most books and have reasonable shipping terms and lead times. Their database does include some used and rare books, which they offer to search for.
Barnes & Noble.com
The big retailer, challenging Amazon in the on-line arena. You be the judge of who's site is easier to use and better designed. Used books are available through an arrangement with ABE.
