Due any day now is a book on the ceramic tiles of Peggy Angus, to accompany an exhibition which starts tomorrow at the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture, Middlesex University, Cat Hill, Barnet, Hertfordshire.  Peggy was an internationally renowned designer who created wonderfully bright tile designs for Carters of Poole in the 1940s, '50s and '60s, utilising strongly geometric designs that could be put together in may ways to create different patterns.  More recently, she worked with Diana Hall on the design of encaustic floor tiles.  Let us know if you woukld like more details as soon as the book arrives.

We are also expecting a fantastic new book on roof tiles from the USA.  It sets out through 730 colour illustrations to identify the different makes and styles of roof tile of the past 150 years.  This is a major work on the subject which we believe will be of great help to those working in the conservation of historic buildings.

Gallery!

We were quite staggered by the response to our request for 'exhibitors for our 'virtual' gallery in last month's update.  So we're going to feature a couple of artists this month:

First, 'A Work in Progress' from Australian Mosaic artist, Tammy Morley:

Tammy is a Librarian in Brisbane, Australia, by day and makes mosaics at the weekends!  In her own words, this item is a loose interpreation of one of the better known Ravenna mosaics.  Her recent productions include a bird bath which is nearing completion - lucky birds!  Please contact Buckland Books for further details.

Here's a fabulous new mosasic from Gary Drpostle which has just been installed as the centrepiece of the new refurbishment of Staines High Street (Middlesex).

The mosaic depicts the borough coat of arms surrounded by a 3 strand guilloche, reflecting the Roman heritage of Staines. The mosaic was made using the indirect technique in the classical style. In addition to this large floor piece there are 20 smaller mosaic panels along the High Street depicting other aspects of local heritage. more infromation at http://www.drostle.com/newsupdate
