Autumn
Newsletter
The past year has seen a remarkable number of
new books on the subjects of mosaics, bricks and tiles. It has been our
privilege to co-operate with publishers in seeking out new authors and subject
matter for publication, some of which have appeared already, and others are due
out soon. If you are thinking of writing a book or would like to see a
particular subject covered, please let us know - we may be able to put you in
touch with a publisher.
We have a few new books to mention this month and also some
other developments, one of which is a CERAMIC CHRISTMAS CARD! Don't miss
this fabulous gift idea - further details below!

Suzanne Baizerman, Lynn Downey and
John Toki, Pomegranate/Oakland Museum of California, USA, 2001, 129pp, 90 colour

The Arequipa Pottery was created
to provide occupation for TB patients in a humanitarian sanatorium
established in 1911, following an epidemic of the disease precipitated by the
1906 San Francisco Earthquake. As such it was one of the first such
establishments in the world. The pottery produced some stunning work over
the years until its demise in about 1923, including some fascinating tiles. This
is the story of the pottery and its products, many of which were designed by the
English potters, Frederick Hürten Rhead, Albert Solon and Fred
Wilde.
