One of the last projects of Peter
Fischer before his untimely death was to compose a ‘poem in prose’ to the beauty
and symbolism of Lucio Orsoni and his mosaics. This has now been published
together with superb photographs taken specially by Norbert Heyl and is a
fitting epitaph to a lifetime studying mosaic.

illustrations could have been better, but this is an interesting
study.

taken up with facsimiles of some of the earliest literature on marble and pietre
dure in the Italian language. There are also chapters on marble cutting/forming
techniques and tools and a very useful ‘identity parade’ with good illustrations
of some 80 different types of marble.
