The Deer Creek Pottery Air-Purged Press Mold Process

The following 6 pages of photographs describe our press mold process.
This description of our process was excerpted from an article titled

Deer Creek Pottery: Making Purged Molds for Quick Release
by Jo Ann Chartier.

The article appeared in the December 1993 issue of Ceramics Monthly.

A text description of the process is also available.

To replicate a Julia Morgan tile, an impression (middle) from the original mold (left) is used to cast a plaster face plate (right).

The face plate is incorporated into a model;
as the pressing platform for the working die, the model must be level.
