The 1994 Tile Heritage Award Tile

Kenneth R. Trapp, Oakland Museum curator of decorative arts, was honored May 9 in Greenfield, Ohio, with the newly created Tile Heritage Award of the Tile Heritage Foundation of Healdsburg, Calif. The award honored Trapp's curatorial work on the exhibition "The Arts and Crafts Movement in California: Living the Good Life," now on national tour.

Foundation Director Dale Wiley explained that Trapp himself inspired the award, which will be presented annually to honor an individual or company best exemplifying the foundation's mission of promoting awareness and appreciation of ceramic surfaces in the United States.

Trapp's award, an 8" x 8" ceramic tile appropriately inscribed "Living the Good Life" and embellished with California poppies, was hand-pressed from a hand-carved original by Dale Wiley in Camp Meeker, California.
